Florida Man Charged with Attempted Murder for Intentionally Hitting Deputies with Car
Deputies Carlos Brito and Manny Santos critically injured in 'ambush'; fundraiser set up for their medical expenses
- Ralph Bouzy, 28, has been charged with attempted murder after intentionally driving his car into Hillsborough County deputies Carlos Brito and Manny Santos, who were responding to a call about Bouzy acting violently.
- Both deputies suffered severe leg injuries and are hospitalized; one may require leg amputation. They are expected to survive but face a long recovery.
- The incident, described as an 'ambush', occurred when Bouzy returned to his home shortly after the deputies arrived and sped his car into them, pinning them against their patrol vehicle.
- Bouzy, who has a criminal history including three felonies and 14 misdemeanors, has previously expressed hostility towards law enforcement. In a 2017 arrest, he stated he was going to kill a deputy.
- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has set up a fundraiser through the Lynn Sowers Memorial Foundation to cover the deputies' medical expenses, rehabilitation, and additional support for them and their families.
