Overview
- Craig Vogt, 61, of Hudson was arrested on Sept. 23 and charged with aggravated animal cruelty.
- According to deputies, a neighbor reported finding a letter in her mailbox in which Vogt said he killed and ate two peacocks.
- The affidavit says Vogt told officers he slit the birds’ throats, cooked them in a frying pan, and ate them.
- While being taken to jail, Vogt said he planned to kill all his peacocks after release to stop anyone from taking custody of them.
- He is being held in a detention facility, and reporters note that although peacocks are considered invasive in Florida, the state’s anti-cruelty law covers all animals.
