Atkins reportedly posted statements such as 'America needs one good bullet to be saved' and other threatening messages targeting Trump.
Authorities launched an investigation after receiving a tip about the posts, which Atkins later admitted to making but claimed were jokes.
During the arrest, Atkins was also found in possession of cocaine and now faces charges for both drug possession and making written threats, a second-degree felony.
The Secret Service is evaluating whether additional federal charges will be pursued, as this follows two assassination attempts on Trump during his reelection campaign.
