Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue and the Chabad Center confirmed the fire was a targeted attack, not considered a hate crime by police.
Scott Hannaford, 50, a transient with a history of trespassing on the property, has been charged with arson, criminal mischief, and possession of cocaine.
Despite the destruction, the Chabad Center is determined to rebuild, launching a fundraising campaign to gather $1 million for the reconstruction.
The incident began with the Rabbi’s van being set on fire, which then spread to the community center.
