Florida Gators Hire Vinnie Sunseri as Co-Defensive Coordinator and Safeties Coach

The 33-year-old Nick Saban protégé brings NFL and college experience to a program aiming to rebuild its defensive identity.

Vinnie Sunseri, a former Alabama safety and NFL player, will join the Florida Gators as co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach, replacing Austin Armstrong.
Sunseri, 33, has an extensive coaching background, including roles with the New England Patriots, University of Washington, and Jacksonville State.
He helped Washington achieve a top-five national ranking in passing defense during the 2024 season, allowing only 166.8 yards per game through the air.
Sunseri's ties to Gators head coach Billy Napier date back to their time under Nick Saban at Alabama, where Sunseri was part of two national championship teams.
The hire is part of Napier's efforts to revitalize Florida's football program, which has not won a national title since 2008.
