Florida Executes Victor Tony Jones for 1990 Double Murder, Marking 13th Execution of 2025

The case caps a year in which Florida leads the nation in executions.

Overview

  • Jones, 64, was put to death by lethal injection at Florida State Prison in Starke and pronounced dead at 6:13 p.m. ET.
  • He was convicted in 1993 of two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed robbery for killing Jacob and Matilda Nestor, also known as Jack and Dolly.
  • Court records say Jones stabbed both victims during a robbery; before dying, Jacob Nestor shot Jones in the forehead, and police found Jones with the couple’s belongings.
  • The Florida Supreme Court recently rejected defense claims of intellectual disability and past reform-school abuse, and a U.S. Supreme Court filing did not halt the execution.
  • Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the death warrant, Florida uses a three‑drug protocol, and two more executions are set for Oct. 14 and Oct. 28, bringing the U.S. total to 34 this year.
