Florida Executes Curtis Windom in Record 11th Execution of 2025

The lethal injection followed the U.S. Supreme Court’s denial of his final appeal one day earlier.

Overview

  • Windom, 59, was pronounced dead at 6:17 p.m. ET at Florida State Prison near Starke.
  • He was condemned for the 1992 killings of Johnnie Lee, his girlfriend Valerie Davis, and her mother Mary Lubin in the Orlando area.
  • His last-minute appeals focused on claims of ineffective trial counsel and unpresented mental-health evidence, which state and federal courts rejected.
  • Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the death warrant on July 29, and Florida has now surpassed its previous single-year high of eight executions as the U.S. count reached 30 in 2025.
  • Florida uses a three-drug lethal injection protocol, and another execution in the state is scheduled for Sept. 17 for David Joseph Pittman.
