Florida Elevates Steve Spurrier Jr., Hands Play-Calling to Ryan O’Hara Before Georgia Game

The staff shuffle follows Billy Napier’s firing over persistent offensive struggles.

  • Interim coach Billy Gonzales moved Spurrier Jr. from analyst to an on-field role to work directly with quarterback DJ Lagway on the sideline.
  • Quarterbacks analyst Ryan O’Hara will call plays from the coaches’ booth and relay them over the headset to Spurrier for on-field execution.
  • Offensive coordinator Russ Callaway will organize the offense and remain heavily involved in strategy and decision-making.
  • Lagway has thrown for 1,513 yards with nine touchdowns and nine interceptions this season while working back from core-muscle surgery and other injuries.
  • The changes debut Nov. 1 against No. 5 Georgia in Jacksonville following a stretch in which Florida totaled 50 points in losses to USF, LSU, Miami and Texas A&M.
