Florence + The Machine Unveil ‘Everybody Scream’ Single and Witchy Video Ahead of Oct. 31 Album

Rooted in Florence Welch’s post-surgery reflections, the project channels folk-horror mysticism, featuring contributions from Mark Bowen, Mitski, Aaron Dessner.

Overview

  • Released Aug. 20, the title track arrived with an Autumn de Wilde–directed video that leans into folk‑horror imagery and includes a cameo by IDLESMark Bowen.
  • Everybody Scream is due Oct. 31 via Polydor/Republic as a 12-track album with preorders live, plus ‘Chamber Versions’ on CD and vinyl with four bonus tracks and a ‘Bloodwood Edition’ cassette.
  • In a new Apple Music 1 interview, Welch detailed a creative moodboard that juxtaposed Swans and Adele, citing Swans’ “It’s Coming It’s Real” and recent experimental pop as touchstones.
  • Welch said Mitski urged the title track to land on a full chorus after an initial drone section, shaping lyrics about the performer’s intimate pull to the stage.
  • The record’s themes stem from Welch’s recovery from lifesaving surgery during the Dance Fever tour, exploring spiritual mysticism, folk horror, womanhood, partnership, aging and death.
