Flood Watch Issued for South-Central Texas as Late-Week Storm Targets San Antonio and Austin

Forecasts call for 1 to 3 inches of rain with isolated totals near 6 inches, raising the risk of rapid runoff, flash flooding.

Overview

  • The National Weather Service watch is in effect from midnight Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday, covering San Antonio, Austin and numerous Hill Country counties including Bexar, Travis, Bandera, Blanco, Kerr, Llano and Uvalde.
  • A Pacific cold front interacting with deep low-level moisture is expected to drive several rounds of heavy rain from late Wednesday night into early Friday.
  • Widespread totals of 1–3 inches are forecast with localized pockets up to 6 inches possible, which could exceed a typical November’s rainfall in some cities.
  • Excessive runoff could inundate rivers, creeks, low-lying and poorly drained areas, and low-water crossings, with urban flooding possible where drainage is limited.
  • Rain is expected to taper by Friday night with lighter chances returning over the weekend, and officials urge residents to monitor updates and be prepared for possible Flood Warnings.
