Flixtrain Expands Reach With Regional Kombitickets, Adding 300 Cities

Through the Deutschlandtarifverbund partnership, Flixtrain now lists over 1,000 destinations to improve long-distance access for smaller communities.

Overview

  • New tickets combine a regional train leg with a Flixtrain journey, usable as a feeder or for onward travel after the long-distance segment.
  • Regional legs carry no train binding, tickets are cheaper than buying segments separately, and bookings are available via Flixtrain’s app and website.
  • Initial additions include Erlangen, Ilmenau, Konstanz, Hameln and Celle, plus routes on the Schwarzwaldbahn and Höllentalbahn and connections to Schaffhausen in Switzerland.
  • Flixtrain’s direct network remains about 50 German cities plus Basel, with the expanded offer delivered via cooperation across the Deutschlandtarifverbund.
  • The move complements Flix’s plan to buy up to 65 Talgo high-speed trains with Siemens locomotives for about €2.4 billion, as experts warn that network congestion and high track-access fees pose constraints.
