Overview
- An Aug. 26 National Park Service alert reported heavy rain causing flooding inside the park and along its boundary.
- Oasis of Mara is closed, the West Entrance is shut to vehicles through 6 p.m. Aug. 29, and part of the Black Rock Trailhead is closed for repairs until Sept. 30.
- The National Weather Service warns of storms capable of very heavy rain and flash flooding, with showers possible through Thursday and additional thunderstorms forecast around Sept. 1.
- Official messages advised “Turn around, don’t drown,” urging visitors to avoid unnecessary travel and not drive through moving water as debris remains on roadways.
- Park crews are clearing dirt and debris and assessing damage, and visitors are being directed to use the north or south entrances.
