Flash Flood Warnings Halt Searches for Missing Along Guadalupe River

Renewed flash flood warnings in Texas Hill Country have forced responders to suspend Guadalupe River searches.

Overview

  • Search and recovery operations along the Guadalupe River were suspended Sunday as renewed flash flood warnings prompted immediate evacuations.
  • At least 161 people remain unaccounted for after the July 4 floods that killed 103 in Kerr County, including 36 children.
  • More than 2,000 local, state and federal responders and over 12,000 volunteers had been scouring debris and riverbanks since the disaster began.
  • Governor Greg Abbott expanded the Presidential Disaster Declaration to six counties — Burnet, Kerr, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis and Williamson — making residents eligible for FEMA Individual Assistance.
  • Officials are reviewing damage assessments through the state’s iSTAT tool and considering FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program to bolster future flood resilience.
