Flash Flood Threat Intensifies in Arizona With Priscilla Fading Offshore

Forecasters expect 2 to 4 inches of rain with isolated 6-inch totals across the Southwest through Saturday.

Tropical Storm Priscilla is expected to bring heavy rainfall to portions of the southwestern United States through this weekend, according to the National Hurricane Center.

  • Priscilla was about 195 miles west-northwest of Cabo San Lázaro with 45 mph winds early Friday, and the NHC forecasts it will turn post-tropical and dissipate by Saturday while staying offshore of Baja California Sur.
  • The NWS issued life-threatening flash flood warnings for parts of Arizona and posted flood watches across California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico through the weekend.

  • Large swells are producing dangerous surf and rip currents along Baja California Sur, and moisture from newly formed Tropical Storm Raymond could bring additional heavy rain to the Southwest beginning Sunday.
