Fivetran Donates SQLMesh to the Linux Foundation for Vendor-Neutral Stewardship

The move puts the SQL-based transformation tool under community governance to grow as a shared building block for modern data pipelines.

Overview

  • Fivetran, which announced the donation Wednesday at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe, shifted SQLMesh to Linux Foundation governance with a vendor-neutral charter.
  • SQLMesh lets data teams define, test, version, and deploy SQL transformations with built-in reliability and automation that make complex pipelines easier to manage.
  • Initial supporters include Benzinga, CloudKitchens, Harness, Infinite Lambda, Jump AI, and Minerva, with each backing an open, community-run project.
  • The source code and documentation remain public on GitHub, and contributors can join the work through https://github.com/SQLMesh/sqlmesh.
  • Originally created at Tobiko Data before Fivetran’s 2025 acquisition, the project now anchors an Open Data Infrastructure push that favors portability and reduces lock-in for analytics and AI teams.
