Five Workers Die from Suffocation in Mumbai Construction Site Tragedy

The victims were cleaning an underground water tank when they lost consciousness; authorities are investigating the incident.

Five contract laborers died of suffocation while cleaning an underground water tank at the under-construction Bismillah Space building in Mumbai's Nagpada area.
The incident occurred between 11:00 AM and 12:30 PM on Sunday, March 9, 2025, on Dimtimkar Road near Mastan Talaav under the JJ Marg police station jurisdiction.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade and other emergency services rescued the workers and transported them to JJ Hospital, where they were declared brought dead.
A preliminary investigation suggests the workers lost consciousness while cleaning the tank; one survivor, Bhutan Shaikh, is undergoing treatment at JJ Hospital.
The police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are questioning the contractors involved as part of an ongoing probe.
