Five University Students Found Dead in Car in Violence-Ridden Mexican City

Guanajuato Governor Pledges Exhaustive Investigation Amid Mourning at Latina University of Mexico

Five university students were found dead in a car on a dirt road in the outskirts of Celaya, a city in north-central Mexico known for drug cartel violence.
The bodies were discovered on Sunday in a rural area located outside the Latina University of Mexico, which has suspended classes in mourning.
Local media reported that the students had been shot to death, but this has not been immediately confirmed by prosecutors.
The governor of the state of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez, has pledged an exhaustive investigation into the killings.
In June, a car bomb set off by a drug cartel in Celaya targeted law enforcement, killing a National Guard officer. The Santa Rosa de Lima cartel, which has been in a bloody turf war with the Jalisco cartel for control of Guanajuato, was blamed.
