Five UK Citizens Charged With Spying for Russia

Police in the UK have charged three men and two women, all Bulgarian citizens, with spying for Russia.
The five individuals were charged with collecting information intended to aid Russia, after a multi-year investigation.
The accused face up to 14 years in prison if found guilty of espionage and conspiracy offenses.
Prosecutors allege the five were tasked with gathering intelligence to send back to handlers in Russia.
The defendants appeared in a London court on September 26, 2023 for a preliminary hearing ahead of their trial.
