Five Santos Fans Held in Preventive Custody After Highway Ambush on Internacional Bus

Overview

• Police say Santos supporters orchestrated an ambush on BR-101 in Itapema, surrounding an Internacional fan bus and attacking it with stones, sticks and fireworks.
• The bus driver reported reversing to escape and colliding with a truck, with six people injured who were treated and released, according to the Military Police.
• Five Santos supporters were arrested on robbery charges over looted items from the bus, and a judge converted their arrests to preventive detention while others detained were released after questioning.
• Authorities reported finding a projectile inside the Internacional bus and are examining a video of a man seen with a firearm, though no gun has been seized.
• A multi-agency response by PRF, Military Police, BOPE, the Municipal Guard, Civil Police and medical teams cleared the road and continues to collect evidence and identify participants.
