Overview

  • On June 9 a bus carrying 28 Indian tourists from Qatar lost control on Ol Jororok-Nakuru Road in Nyandarua County and plunged into a gorge, resulting in five deaths and several injuries.
  • The deceased from Kerala comprise Jasna, 29, and her daughter Ruhi Mehrin; Riya Puthanpurayil, 41, and her daughter Taira; and 58-year-old Geetha Shoji.
  • The High Commission of India in Nairobi deployed consular teams to the crash site, is in close contact with local authorities and has set up a helpline at +254 734916532.
  • The Indian Embassy in Qatar is liaising with community groups including the Indian Cultural Centre and Indian Community Benevolent Forum to support victims’ families.
  • NORKA Roots and Kerala authorities are arranging transfers of the injured to Nairobi hospitals and coordinating repatriation of the deceased through a global contact centre at 1800 425 3939.
