Five Plead Guilty in Texas Antifa Terror Case Tied to July 4 Detention Center Attack

Prosecutors call it the first federal material‑support case targeting an Antifa cell.

Overview

  • Nathan Baumann, Joy Gibson, Seth Sikes, Lynette Sharp and John Thomas each pleaded guilty in Fort Worth to one count of providing material support to terrorists and face up to 15 years in prison.
  • The pleas stem from a July 4 shooting outside the Prairieland immigration detention center near Dallas in which an Alvarado police officer was wounded during an attack involving gunfire and fireworks.
  • Court filings say Gibson, Baumann and Sikes were present the night of the attack, while Sharp and Thomas helped the alleged shooter avoid arrest until July 15.
  • Authorities say 16 people have been charged overall, with nine defendants facing a 12‑count indictment that includes attempted murder and explosives offenses, and arraignments set for Dec. 3.
  • The Justice Department’s case followed President Trump’s designation of Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, and FBI Director Kash Patel has said this is the first use of material‑support charges against Antifa, after a multi‑agency probe led by FBI Dallas.
