Five Mumbai Students Fall Ill After Canteen Snacks, All Treated and Discharged

Police have opened an investigation into suspected contamination at KVK School's canteen.

Overview

  • Children aged 10 to 11 reported nausea and vomiting after eating samosas or vadas at KVK School in Ghatkopar on Monday afternoon.
  • The school’s security guard alerted authorities, and the students were taken to the civic-run Rajawadi Hospital for treatment.
  • Three children were discharged first and two were kept under observation before all five were cleared to go home, the hospital said.
  • The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation identified the students as Ikra Jafar Miyaj Sayyad, Vaija Gulam Husen, Rajik Khan, Aarush Khan and Afjal Shaikh.
  • Principal Reema D’Souza said a camphor tablet may have dissolved in the batter, a claim not verified by health or forensic authorities, and noted a longstanding canteen hygiene record, with the episode drawing comparisons to a larger Thane case last year that led to an FIR.
