Five Minors to Be Charged Aug. 20 in Zara Qairina Case in Sabah

The Attorney General’s Chambers says the charges will not interfere with the planned inquest into the 13-year-old’s death.

  • Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar confirmed the suspects, all under 18, will appear before the Kota Kinabalu Juvenile Court.
  • Prosecutors will proceed under Section 507C(1) of the Penal Code covering threatening, abusive or insulting words or communications.
  • The Attorney General’s Chambers said the charging decision will not affect the ongoing police investigation or the court inquest.
  • The inquest is set to begin on Sept 3 with multiple hearing dates approved by Coroner Azreena Aziz, and Zara’s mother, Noraidah Lamat, is expected to be a witness.
  • Investigators have interviewed 195 people so far, and the AGC will decide the final witness list before the inquest opens on Sept 3.
