Overview

  • Five Metropolitan Police officers were arrested on 19 August under an IOPC-directed investigation into the force’s handling of an internal sexual-assault allegation.
  • Those held include four officers from the North-West Borough Command Unit and one from a local Professional Standards unit, arrested on suspicion of offences such as perverting the course of justice and misconduct in public office.
  • Investigators executed 11 search warrants at homes and police stations and seized computer equipment and mobile phones as part of coordinated searches.
  • All arrested officers have been bailed pending further inquiries, with the Met’s Anti-Corruption Command carrying out work under IOPC direction and potential CPS referral and disciplinary action to follow.
  • In a linked but separate matter, the Met charged an officer with perverting the course of justice who appeared in court on 22 August, according to the IOPC.
