Overview

  • Officers were detained on 19 August after 11 warrants at police stations and homes, with phones and computers seized and all five later bailed.
  • The suspects were told they are under investigation for potential offences including perverting the course of justice, misconduct in public office, and corrupt or improper exercise of police powers.
  • The case involves four officers from the North West Borough Command Unit and one from the Directorate of Professional Standards.
  • The IOPC says the investigation began in June following a Met referral and is being carried out by the Met’s Anti-Corruption Command under its direction and control.
  • Separately, an officer was charged on 22 August with perverting the course of justice in a linked matter and appeared in court, while reporting says the underlying complaint involves an alleged Christmas party assault by a senior colleague.
