Five Members of 2018 Canadian World Juniors Team Charged with Sexual Assault

Charges Stem from 2018 Incident; Players Have Taken Leaves of Absence from NHL Teams

  • Five members of the 2018 Canadian world juniors team, Dillon Dubé, Cal Foote, Alex Formenton, Carter Hart and Michael McLeod, have been charged with sexual assault related to an incident that occurred in 2018.
  • The charges are related to an alleged sexual assault of a woman in a London hotel room on June 19, 2018, following a Hockey Canada Foundation event.
  • All five players recently took leaves of absence from their respective teams after being told to surrender to police.
  • The woman alleged that she went to a hotel room with a player where they engaged in consensual sexual acts before the player allowed seven other players into the room, who then allegedly sexually assaulted her.
  • Hockey Canada and the woman settled a lawsuit related to the incident in May 2022, and the NHL launched an investigation as well.
