Overview

• The Aug. 22 crash occurred on I-90 near Pembroke as a New York City–bound bus returned from Niagara Falls with 52 to 54 people aboard.
• State police ruled out mechanical failure and operator impairment; the driver survived, is cooperating with investigators, and no charges have been announced.
• Authorities said many passengers were ejected or trapped and appeared not to be wearing seat belts, with more than 40 patients treated at regional hospitals and multiple medevac helicopters deployed.
