Overview
- State police confirmed five deaths and said the single-vehicle crash occurred near Pembroke around 12:20 p.m. Friday as the bus returned from Niagara Falls.
- The victims were identified as Shankar Kumar Jha, Pinki Changrani, Xie Hongzhuo, Zhang Xiaolan, and Jian Mingli; all were adults.
- Of the 54 people on board, many were tourists from India, China and the Philippines, and translators and a Family Assistance Center supported survivors and relatives.
- Hospitals in Buffalo and Rochester treated more than 40 patients, with ECMC reporting 21 arrivals and several in its trauma ICU after multiple ejections.
- The bus, operated by M&Y Tour Inc., is under NTSB and state police review, and the driver—identified as Bin Shao—survived and is cooperating as no charges have been filed.
