  • A high-grade fireworks device exploded around 12:18 a.m. on July 5 in a back alley near 2200 Spanos Street, wounding five people during a Fourth of July gathering.
  • Participants had been setting off industrial-grade fireworks in Antioch where all fireworks are banned under Contra Costa County regulations.
  • Antioch Police Department, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and local paramedics treated victims on scene and transported several to nearby hospitals.
  • Some injured parties left before first responders arrived and are now among those receiving treatment for burns and possible limb trauma.
