Five, Including Three Juveniles, Killed in Highway 83 Crash Near Franktown

State patrol investigators are examining why a southbound Toyota rolled into oncoming lanes.

Overview

  • Colorado State Patrol said the three-vehicle collision was reported around 4:40 p.m. near Russellville Road south of Franktown.
  • Troopers reported the Toyota went off the right shoulder, returned to the roadway, rolled into northbound lanes, hit a Ford sedan head-on, then struck a pickup.
  • The Toyota driver was ejected and died at the scene, and the adult driving the Ford along with three juveniles in that car were pronounced dead.
  • Two other juveniles from the Ford were airlifted to hospitals, and the pickup driver was not injured.
  • Highway 83 was shut down for hours Monday night during the investigation, and an unrelated crash at Highway 83 and Highway 86 was later cleared.
