Five in Custody After Bronx Drive-By Outside Deli Kills One, Wounds Four

Police are examining possible gang ties with charges pending for those detained.

  • Gunfire erupted around 7:30 p.m. Monday at Allerton and Olinville avenues, where two shooters exited a gray Honda and opened fire on a group outside a deli/smoke shop.
  • The vehicle crashed less than a mile away near Arnow and Hone avenues, where officers recovered at least three firearms and took five people into custody.
  • One suspect, a 24-year-old man, was critically injured in the crash and hospitalized as investigators work to determine the intended target and motive.
  • The man killed was identified as Jamari Henry of Wakefield, while four other men in their 20s were treated at Jacobi Hospital in stable condition with wounds to arms and legs.
  • In a separate case early Tuesday, 21-year-old Jontay Davis was found shot behind St. Barnabas Hospital and later died, with no arrests reported in that investigation.
