Five Get Life Terms, 33 Receive Seven-Year Sentences for 2018 Bulandshahr Violence

Overview

  • A Bulandshahr court on August 1 imposed life sentences on Rahul, David, Prashant Nat, Lokendra Singh and Johnny for the murder of Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh.
  • Thirty-three others were jailed for seven years after being convicted of rioting, arson and attempted murder linked to the December 2018 violence.
  • Each life-term convict was fined ₹20,000 while those with seven-year sentences were fined ₹2,000.
  • Among the seven-year convicts are Bajrang Dal leader Yogesh Raj and former Rashtriya Rifles jawan Jeetendra Malik.
  • Defense counsel Ashok Dagar confirmed plans to appeal the verdicts in higher courts.
