Overview

  • The fishers were found on May 7 by the Ecuadorian tuna boat Aldo and arrived in the Galápagos on May 10.
  • Their boat suffered an alternator failure two days after departing Pucusana Bay, causing a total loss of power, navigation, and communication tools.
  • To survive, the men collected rainwater, removed rusted water from the engine, and caught and cooked fish.
  • The Ecuadorian navy is coordinating with Peruvian and Colombian authorities to facilitate the survivors’ safe return home.
  • This incident follows a similar case earlier this year when a Peruvian fisherman was rescued after 95 days adrift.
