Five Children Dead, One Injured in South Bend House Fire

Investigation Underway as Firefighter Injured During Rescue Operation

Five children, aged between 17 months and 11 years, died in a house fire in South Bend, Indiana.
A sixth child, the eldest at 11 years old, was airlifted to a pediatric burn center in Indianapolis for treatment.
An adult present during the fire made a 'valiant attempt' to rescue the children but was overcome by heavy smoke.
One firefighter was injured after falling through the second floor onto the first while fighting the fire.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
