Five Charged in Downtown London Shooting as Police Seize Gun and Drugs, One Suspect Still Sought

Investigators cite a citywide spike in gunfire with appeals for video and tips.

  • Police say evidence showed a firearm was discharged near Richmond and John streets around 3 a.m. on Aug. 31, and one person was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
  • A suspect vehicle identified through surveillance was stopped with OPP assistance, and a search yielded a loaded Glock 26 Gen 5, about 98 grams of suspected cocaine, roughly 40 suspected oxycodone pills, and digital scales.
  • Five London residents — Liban Yousuf, Mading Atat, Abraham Johnson, Noah Gerges and Rebekah Dean — face gun- and drug-related charges, remain in custody, and have court dates set as police release photos to help identify an outstanding suspect.
  • In a separate case, a 35-year-old is charged with breaking and entering and assault after an alleged hate-motivated attack inside a home at 12:35 a.m., the file reassigned to the hate crime unit with a court return set for Oct. 6.
  • In another incident, a 27-year-old is charged after allegedly trying to strike a tenant with a sword during a northwest London dispute, with no injuries reported and a court reappearance scheduled for Tuesday.
