Five Berlin Citizen Offices to Temporarily Close for Federal Election Preparations

The closures, affecting one in nine offices, will last from January until the February 23 election to reallocate staff for election duties.

Five of Berlin's 43 citizen offices will close temporarily starting in January to support preparations for the upcoming federal election on February 23, 2024.
The affected offices are located in Friedrichshain, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Marzahn-Hellersdorf, Reinickendorf-Ost, and Spandau, as confirmed by the Berlin Senate Chancellery.
The closures are due to a shortage of staff in district election offices, requiring citizen office employees to assist with election-related tasks.
Already booked appointments at the closed offices will generally be honored but may be relocated to alternate locations, with impacted citizens being notified in advance.
Additional service disruptions are expected, particularly during the shortened absentee voting period, and other municipal departments may also face staffing reallocations for election preparations.
