Five Arrested After Three Illegal Border Crossings in Abbotsford Over Two Nights

Police report a brief uptick, with RCMP and CBSA leading enforcement; CBSA is conducting immigration examinations.

  • Abbotsford officers responded on Sept. 24–25 to three unlawful entries near Zero Avenue, Mount Lehman Road, Hamm Road and Boundary Road.
  • A family of three was stopped near Zero Avenue and Mount Lehman around 10 p.m. Wednesday, with two men apprehended in separate incidents on Thursday.
  • Four detainees were transferred to the Canada Border Services Agency for immigration examinations, and one person remains in local custody on an outstanding B.C. warrant.
  • CBSA declined to disclose the detainees’ nationalities and stated that crossing between ports of entry is illegal and dangerous.
  • Police said they were alerted by the RCMP Integrated Border Enforcement Team and reported roughly 20 illegal land crossings within about 60 border-related incidents so far this year.
