Overview
- A 13-year-old boy was stabbed on Grand Parade near the junctions with Elms Avenue and Cavendish Place and was airlifted to hospital after the attack on Sunday 20 September at about 5:10pm.
- Sussex Police have arrested five people — three boys aged 16, 16 and 17, a 22-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man — on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and all remain in custody.
- Officers are still searching for the suspected knife and have kept an increased police presence in the area while specialist officers support the injured boy, who is due to be discharged from hospital.
- Investigators have asked anyone with information or CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage from the area between 4pm and 6pm on 20 September to contact police quoting serial 1096.
- The case has renewed local concern about youth knife crime in Sussex, where weapons reports are above the national average and nearly £600,000 has been allocated to make local hotspots safer under a Home Office fund.
