Overview
- Flames broke out around 11:23 a.m. on Nov. 8 at Zeny Tire & Rim Corporation near Bronx River and Rosedale avenues in the Van Nest area of the Bronx.
- Roughly 200 to 220 FDNY and EMS personnel responded, and the fire was brought under control in the early afternoon, shortly after 2:10–2:30 p.m.
- Four firefighters were taken to hospitals with minor injuries, and officials reported no civilian injuries or deaths.
- Part of the one-story shop collapsed; commanders identified the failing rear wall in time to pull crews out, preventing collapse-related injuries.
- The Department of Buildings issued full vacate orders for the shop and two adjacent homes, displacing about 16 people from six apartments as the Red Cross provides lodging and financial aid.
