FIU Names Willie Simmons as New Head Football Coach

Simmons brings a proven track record of success at the FCS level to a struggling FIU program following Mike MacIntyre's dismissal.

Florida International University (FIU) has officially hired Willie Simmons, Duke's 2024 running backs coach, as its new head football coach.
Simmons, 44, previously served as head coach at Florida A&M, where he compiled a 45-13 record and led the team to two HBCU national championships between 2018 and 2023.
He replaces Mike MacIntyre, who was dismissed after three consecutive 4-8 seasons, as FIU looks to revitalize a program that has had only four winning seasons in its 21-year history.
Simmons’ extensive coaching experience includes stints at Prairie View A&M, Alcorn State, Middle Tennessee State, and Clemson, with an overall head coaching record of 66-24 at the FCS level.
FIU has signed Simmons to a four-year deal, with a press conference expected Monday to formally introduce him as the program's sixth head coach.
