FIT Gala Celebrates Dr. Joyce F. Brown's Legacy, Raises Over $2.4M

The Fashion Institute of Technology honored its first female and African American president for her transformative 27-year tenure and enduring impact on education and fashion.

Dr. Joyce F. Brown, FIT's president since 1998, was celebrated for her leadership in expanding the campus, adding 28 degree programs, and advancing sustainability and innovation.
The gala raised over $2.4 million for the newly established Dr. Joyce F. Brown Legacy Fund, supporting scholarships and future FIT programs.
Notable figures, including Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, and New York Governor Kathy Hochul, praised Dr. Brown’s contributions to education and the creative industries.
Dr. Brown highlighted her commitment to sustainability, citing a 67% reduction in carbon emissions and the integration of green roofs during her tenure.
As she prepares to retire, Dr. Brown remains active in the fashion industry and is overseeing the completion of a new energy-efficient academic building set to open by year-end.
