First Vande Bharat Sleeper Rake From Latur Factory Delayed to Mid-2026

Marathwada Rail Coach Factory has begun prototype testing after receiving the car body from Chennai ahead of full-scale assembly

Overview

  • Latur’s coach factory has taken delivery of structural shells from a Chennai firm and is conducting multi-level inspections before sleeper coach production begins
  • Full-scale assembly is still pending and the first complete 16-coach sleeper rake is now expected by June 2026
  • The initial production phase will yield two rakes (32 coaches) before the factory scales up to manufacture 1,920 Vande Bharat sleeper coaches
  • Each sleeper rake will carry 823 passengers across 16 coaches designed for speeds up to 160 km/h, with three toilets and a small pantry in every coach
  • The 351-acre Marathwada facility employs about 10,000 workers, features 11 advanced assembly stations and an 8.6-km internal track, and will maintain coaches in Bengaluru, Delhi and Jodhpur
