First UK Defendant Convicted of Riot Jailed for Four Years

Kieran Usher, 32, admitted to encouraging mob violence during August's nationwide disorder in Sunderland.

Kieran Usher, from Sunderland, was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court to four years and four months in prison.
Usher was the first person in the UK to plead guilty to a charge of riot after the summer's widespread violence.
On August 2, he was part of a group of around 20 people who attacked police officers with missiles in Sunderland.
Usher, who has learning difficulties, was captured on CCTV wearing a mask and a Union flag while inciting violence.
Judge Tim Gittins noted Usher's full admissions and early guilty plea in the sentencing decision.
