First State-Recognized Kindergarten Opens in Homesh 20 Years After Disengagement

Leaders cast the state-approved classroom as a milestone in efforts to revive communities evacuated in 2005.

Overview

  • A Ministry of Education kindergarten was inaugurated Monday in Homesh, with regional officials, ministry representatives, and former and new teachers attending.
  • Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan recited the Shehecheyanu blessing, declared “The Disengagement is dead,” and pledged more kindergartens in Homesh and other evacuated sites.
  • Education Minister Yoav Kisch called the opening a “Zionist deed” and said his ministry will provide educational services to every Jewish settlement under his purview.
  • Finance and Defense Ministry official Bezalel Smotrich described the kindergarten as a symbol of renewal and vowed continued building and expansion.
  • Reports noted this is the first kindergarten opened in any community evacuated in the 2005 pullout, following earlier steps such as the return of the Homesh yeshiva and recent government moves enabling resettlement.
