First Spider-Man Comic Expected to Fetch $35K at Milwaukee Sale

Collector's Edge owner Steve Dobrzynski aids a couple in selling the iconic Amazing Fantasy No. 15, where Spider-Man first appeared; the comic book, graded 3.0 by the Certified Guaranty Company, is in worn condition compared to a near-perfect copy that fetched $3.6 million last year.

  • The Collector's Edge in Milwaukee is looking to sell a rare copy of Amazing Fantasy No. 15, the first appearance of Spider-Man, hoping to fetch about $35,000. The iconic comic book was written by Marvel Comics icon Stan Lee and published in 1962.
  • The comic book was found among a deceased relative's possessions and brought to the Collector's Edge owner Steve Dobrzynski for help with sale. The comic tells the story of how Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider and learned the famous lesson of responsibility accompanying power.
  • The comic book in question is relatively worn, with small tears along the edges. Dobrzynski sent it to the Certified Guaranty Company (CGC), a well-respected grading service for comics and collectibles, which rated it 3.0 on a scale from 0.5 (very poor condition) to 10 (perfect condition).
  • A near-perfect copy of Amazing Fantasy No. 15 fetched $3.6 million at a Texas auction in 2021, demonstrating the potential value of such iconic comics. The final price of this particular copy will heavily depend on the interested bidders, if put up for auction.
  • Before making the sale public, Dobrzynski contacted some regular customers to give them an opportunity to purchase the comic. However, nobody has made a concrete decision yet. As he is selling the comic on behalf of someone else, Dobrzynski is keen to achieve the best possible price.
