First Six Danish F-16s Arrive in Argentina on Friday Ahead of Buenos Aires Flyover

The transfer restores Argentina’s supersonic interception capability after decades without such jets.

Overview

  • The first batch of six F-16AM/BM aircraft purchased from Denmark is scheduled to arrive on December 5, ferried by Danish military pilots.
  • The government has published a low-altitude flyover for Sunday morning over central Buenos Aires, including the Casa Rosada, Avenida de Mayo, Avenida 9 de Julio, Aeroparque and Puerto Madero.
  • After the flyover, the jets will proceed to Córdoba for a 9 a.m. presentation at Área Material Río Cuarto led by President Javier Milei with Defense Minister Luis Petri.
  • The package includes single- and two-seat variants, armament and support equipment, with upgrades for advanced sensors, data links and electronic-warfare systems.
  • Officials describe the arrival as a key reinforcement of national airspace defense, replacing roles once filled by the retired Mirage fleet.
