Overview

  • The first boundary pillar was erected on July 2 in the Hahim area between Kamrup district in Assam and Ri-Bhoi district in Meghalaya.
  • The installation represents the on-ground execution of the March 2022 memorandum signed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
  • Six of the 12 disputed sectors have been settled in the first phase, dividing 36.79 sq km almost equally between Assam and Meghalaya.
  • Both states aim to install five additional boundary pillars by August 15 and are holding deputy commissioner talks to resolve interpretation differences in the Pilingkata sector.
  • Physical markers will clarify jurisdiction in once-contested grey areas and pave the way for local governance and development
