First Mobile Tower Reaches Kondapalli, Unlocking Digital Access in Maoist-Hit Bijapur

Installed under the Niyad Nella Naar scheme, the rollout reflects security-led access that opened the village to government services.

Overview

  • In early December 2025, Kondapalli received its first mobile signal after a new tower was installed in the remote border village.
  • Connectivity now enables banking, Aadhaar-linked benefits and welfare payments such as Mahatari Vandan, tendu patta proceeds and MGNREGA wages through digital channels.
  • The expansion is part of Niyad Nella Naar, with officials citing 728 towers installed and 449 upgrades to 4G across the Bastar region over two years.
  • Regular administrative access followed a security camp set up in December 2024, with electricity arriving two months ago and the Border Roads Organisation rebuilding a 50‑km road stretch.
  • Gaps and risks remain as roughly 400 of about 700 villages in Bijapur still lack coverage and Maoists have burned eight towers since 2022, including six since 2024.
