First Mobile Tower Brings Connectivity to Kondapalli in Chhattisgarh’s Maoist-Hit Bijapur

The rollout stems from a security-led push under the Niyad Nella Naar scheme to extend basic services into Maoist-affected Bastar.

Overview

  • Officials said the tower was installed and activated this week, giving Kondapalli mobile service for the first time.
  • Connectivity will enable online banking, Aadhaar authentication, ration delivery, pensions, health services and education access for residents.
  • The effort is part of a program serving 403 villages near 69 new security camps, alongside 728 newly installed towers and extensive 4G upgrades across the region.
  • A security camp established in December 2024 has enabled regular administrative outreach, with BRO reconstructing about 50 km of roadway and electricity arriving two months ago.
  • Authorities note ongoing risk to telecom infrastructure in Bijapur, where eight towers have been burned since 2022 and violence remains frequent.
