First Local Dengue Cases Confirmed in Nouvelle-Aquitaine as Langon Undergoes Vector Control

Health officials link early-season transmission to imported infections and the spread of the tiger mosquito.

Overview

  • ARS Nouvelle-Aquitaine confirmed two autochthonous dengue infections in Langon on August 18, the region’s first, with both patients reported in stable condition.
  • Insecticide spraying was carried out overnight from August 18 to 19 and door-to-door investigations are underway by ARS, Santé publique France and operator Altopictus.
  • Local hospitals, GPs, pharmacists and laboratories have been mobilized to detect additional cases and reinforce prevention guidance for residents.
  • Since July, the region has recorded about 20 autochthonous chikungunya cases, with no severe cases or hospitalizations reported; officials warn many mild infections go undetected and advise avoiding mosquito bites during the contagious window around symptom onset.
  • National surveillance updated August 20 shows 27 chikungunya episodes totaling 154 autochthonous cases and seven dengue clusters with 13 cases, with West Nile fever cases also expanding in range.
